We have caterpillars

We came into school today and we had a lovely surprise. We have our very own caterpillars, the children are very excited to see the caterpillars turn into chrysalis and then butterflies.

We have named them: Wiggle, Rosie, Tulip, Jack and Goldie.

What a wonderful week!

In Bumblebee Class this week, we have been busy bees indeed! We have set up new challenges for different areas of learning, for children to really extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the daily choosing task – I am very impressed at how many children are choosing to challenge themselves to deepen their learning. Well done Bumblebees!

This week, we have had fun learning about length; shape; developing their writing even more by writing about different animals; learning about different animals by reading non-fiction books, as well as engaging our imaginations in puppet shows and music making! Let’s take a look at some snippets:

Super duper learning!

World Book Day today was great fun, all the children’s costumes were amazing and they really enjoyed telling lots of adults about their chosen character and costume.

Keep up the wonderful learning, Bumblebees! See you next week 🙂

World book day in Ladybird class

We have had a fun day dressed up as our favourite book characters. The children all looked amazing in their costumes. We had fun drawing which characters we were and then writing who we were. The children all brought home a book voucher which you can use to redeem a free book. Please see the voucher for more information.

Traditional tales

Throughout the spring term we are looking at traditional tales, we have been reading Three Billy Goats Gruff, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and we are currently reading Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have been retelling the stories using props. We definitely have some future actors and actresses in the making!

Today, we planted some cress seeds and as a class we planted a ‘magic’ bean seed, we are going to see how big we can grow the bean and if we can climb up it! We are hoping the cress seeds will begin to sprout within a week. The children worked hard putting the soil in the cups, adding the seeds and then sprayed them with water. We are going to look at the changes the plant makes and learn how water and sunlight can help the plant grow.

In Maths, we are looking at number bonds to 5 and 10; doubling facts; sharing as well as which numbers are even and odd. Ask your children which number bonds they can remember to 5 and 10; any double facts and some even and odd numbers!

The children have settled in really well and have worked very hard this term, we are very proud of them!

We hope you have a lovely Christmas and a well deserved break. See you in the new year.

Preparing for our performance

This week we have been practising our songs for our very exciting Christmas performance. We would love to invite you all to come and watch our performance at either 9am or 9.45am on Monday 5th December.

This week we have learned the sounds:

Z- zebra, zoo

qu – queen, quiet

Ch – chip, chop

and words containing ‘s’ at the end (plural words). We are gaining a lot more confidence with remembering our tricky words too. This week we learned ‘no’, ‘go’, ‘to’ and ‘into’. In numeracy, we have been looking at one more and one less, looking at the order of numbers to use what comes next and before to help us – with and without objects.

Our story this week has been Stick Man and we’ve been busy making Stick Man’s family tree. In light of Children in Need today, we have made some Pudsey headbands and masks.

We wish you a lovely weekend!

Mr Big

This week we have been reading the story ‘Mr Big’ and talking about his feelings alongside the importance of friendship. We learned that it doesn’t matter what we look like, we still need to always be kind and make everyone feel included.

In Maths, we have been looking at comparing length, weight and capacity. We have learned lots of new words such as: long, short, tall, longest, shortest, tallest, heavier, lighter, full, half-full and empty.

Additionally, in phonics we have learned new sounds: ‘ff’, ‘ll’, ‘ss’ and ‘j’ as well as the tricky words ‘put’, ‘pull’ and ‘full’. Can you remember any words that contain those sounds? Can you tell your adult a sentence with those tricky words in?

We have been very impressed this week with the children’s progress towards blending their sounds for reading, well done Reception! Please continue to practice the phonetical sounds and blending for reading at home.

We look forward to another wonderful week of great learning next week. Have a lovely weekend.

Exploring patterns

This week we have been learning all about patterns and completing, copying and making repeating patterns using different resources and objects.

In phonics we have learnt the sounds ck, e, u and r. Please ensure you are reading daily with your children at home, and returning reading diaries and books everyday.

Just a reminder children need to wear Velcro trainers unless they can tie their own shoelaces.
Next week we are talking all about our families. We would like the children to bring in some photos of their families if possible.

Have a lovely weekend.
